When a child goes missing in the aftermath of a house explosion, a concerned neighbor teams up with a private investigator to find them. As secrets unravel and a military conspiracy emerges, all hell is unleashed on South Oxford's sleepy suburbs.

Emma Thompson, who plays Zoë Boehm, described her character as a "renegade punk, missile, rocket of a person" and unlike any character she’d played before. She also admitted to having "a cheeky half of Trib [Tribute real ale]" at The Blue Peter pub in Polperro, Cornwall, between takes.
The series is adapted from the first book in Mick Herron's Zoë Boehm series, the same author whose work inspired the Emmy-winning Slow Horses. Down Cemetery Road blends suspense and dark humor.
Although the series is set in Oxford, filming primarily took place across Bristol, Somerset, and Cornwall to maintain smooth production and avoid fan interruptions. Key filming locations included St Nicholas Market and the University of Bristol in Bristol, Bishops Lydeard Railway Station in Somerset, and the fishing village of Polperro in Cornwall.
For car scenes in the drama, producers used a full LED virtual production volume. This ensured a smooth experience during the shoot.
In episode 2, Sarah's seemingly harmless neighbor Rufus reveals himself to be an assassin named Axel. He confesses to murdering Joe and planting the bomb.
