Landman (2024)

Set in the proverbial boomtowns of West-Texas and a modern-day tale of fortune-seeking in the world of oil rigs, the series is an upstairs/downstairs story of roughnecks and wildcat billionaires that are fueling a boom so big it’s reshaping our climate, our economy and our geopolitics.

John Wayne Homage: Billy Bob Thornton pays subtle tribute to John Wayne's tradition of honoring his hero, Harry Carey Sr. In almost every episode, Thornton subtly replicates a specific stance Wayne used in The Searchers as a nod to Carey.
Real Oilfield Training: To prepare for their roles, the actors underwent a "roughneck camp," providing hands-on training to transform them into believable oilfield workers. Jacob Lofland emphasized that this experience was crucial for understanding the grit, sweat, and danger of oilfield life.
Texas-Sized Authenticity: While the show is set in the Permian Basin around Midland and Odessa, much of the filming took place in and around Fort Worth, Texas. The production team also filmed in actual West Texas towns and even crossed state lines into Oklahoma for Season 2.
Rattlesnake Cameos: Keep an eye out for rattlesnakes! Just like in other Taylor Sheridan productions like Yellowstone and Tulsa King, rattlesnakes make appearances, symbolizing lurking danger and characters who can charm one moment and strike the next.
From Podcast to Paramount+: Landman is inspired by the "Boomtown" podcast hosted by Christian Wallace. Wallace also co-created the TV series with Taylor Sheridan and was involved in the casting process.
