During Japan's invasion of the Philippines in 1942, Capt. Henry Lassiter, Sgt. Bill Dane and a diverse group of American soldiers are ordered to destroy and hold a strategic bridge in order to delay the Japanese forces and allow Gen. MacArthur time to secure Bataan. When the Japanese soldiers begin to rebuild the bridge and advance, the group struggles with not only hunger, sickness and gunfire, but also the knowledge that there is likely no relief on the way.

An army pilot is visiting the home of another army pilot in a neighboring country, and falling in love with his sister, when war breaks out.

The film shows newsreel items from the 1920s on through World War 2, and the Nuremberg trials for people considered responsible for war crimes, and crimes against humanity. The war scenes come from Austria, Czech Republik, France, Belgium, Poland, Russia, England, Italy, and Germany. The courtroom trials serve as a parade in which each person is identified by name, and occasionally to his sentence of responsibility denial.
