The Commandant's Shadow (2019)
In 1918, roughly 5,000 American soldiers were sent to fight the Soviet Union’s Red Army in Archangel, Russia. And there they remained—engaged in brutal combat with Bolshevik revolutionaries in sixty below zero temperatures—months after the November 11 armistice had officially ended the Great War. Throughout the punishing fall and winter, U.S. troops felt misled by their government, frustrated by their commanders, and outnumbered by their enemy. By July of 1919, more than 200 soldiers had died from battles, accidents, and the Spanish flu—all while fighting a war that was already over. Based on the newly-released book The Polar Bear Expedition by historian James Carl Nelson, 'When America Invaded Russia,' tells the often forgotten story of our country’s year-long battle with Russia, and pays tribute to the brave soldiers who lost their lives as a result.

Adeline (2022)
When a mysterious doctor arrives in a small Midwestern town, her therapy horse, Adeline, quickly gains a reputation for ‘healing’ those with special needs. Not used to this alternative form of healing, some begin to question the authenticity of Adeline’s methods and tensions arise. But one day during an equine therapy session, a destructive tornado descends upon the barn. Adeline leaps into action and corrals her students, pushing them against the founding wall of the stable. Although Adeline saves the lives of 12 people, she takes the brunt of the storm’s destructive force and suffers a shattered leg. With the town’s people now convinced of Adeline’s amazing spirit, they band together to raise the funds necessary to fix her leg and save her life. Based on an inspirational true story, Adeline teaches all those she encounters the same powerful lesson: miracles happen when you let go of the reins.

The Parson of Panamint (1941)
As he looks over the dusty, deserted remains of the western "boom town" of Panamint, grizzled old prospector Chuckawalla Bill Redfield recalls the town's glory days. Looming large in Chuckawalla's reminiscences is the day that young and apparently mild-mannerd minister Philip Pharo rode into town. In his own gentle but forceful fashion, Pharo managed to bring the town's lawless element into line, mollify the local bluenoses, and win the heart of likeable dance-hall girl Mary Mallory.

Milka: A Film About Taboos (1980)
Based on a novel by the late Finnish writer Timo Mukka, this simple story focuses on what happens when Milka (Irma Huntus), a girl barely out of childhood, gets pregnant by Ojanen (Matti Turunen) a rustic fieldhand. Her own mother had been hoping to marry Ojanen, and her daughter's pregnancy turns their lives around. Set in the Lapp country of northern Finland, the scenery is breathtaking, made even more so by the isolation of the region. A sense of natural solitude is underscored by a slow-moving dialogue interspersed with long silences, and the connection between nature and the dialogue is underscored as the young Milka recites poetry while out in the countryside. The fate of Milka and her mother, however, is connected to the decision that Ojanen makes at the end.
