The true story of the rise to power and brutal assassination of the formerly vilified and later redeemed leader of the independent Congo, Patrice Lumumba. In the 1890s, Father Adolf Daens goes to Aalst, a textile town where child labor is rife, pay and working conditions are horrible, the poor have no vote, and the Catholic church backs the petite bourgeoisie in oppressing workers. He writes a few columns for the Catholic paper, and soon workers are listening and the powerful are in an uproar. He's expelled from the Catholic party, so he starts the Christian Democrats and is elected to Parliament. After Rome disciplines him, he must choose between two callings, as priest and as champion of workers. In subplots, a courageous young woman falls in love with a socialist and survives a shop foreman's rape; children die; prelates play billiards.

This true, astonishing story describes how King Leopold II of Belgium turned Congo into its private colony between 1885 and 1908. Under his control, Congo became a gulag labor camp of shocking brutality. Leopold posed as the protector of Africans fleeing Arab slave-traders but, in reality, he carved out an empire based on terror to harvest rubber.

This WWII documentary uses current location filming and authentic historic film clips to document the Battle of the Bulge, the last big German offensive in World War II, which was launched through the densely forested Ardennes region of Wallonia in eastern Belgium, northeast France, and Luxembourg in December of 1944. The film also portrays the heroism, as well as the confusion and humiliation, that characterized both the Allied and the German troops. It contains rare or previously unseen archival film material as well as in-depth interviews with military leaders from both sides who gives their account of this battle.
