Embruns (2024)
It is cold and dark. In between surreal waves and the morning haze, we catch a glimpse of the emerging glows. The sea breeze wiggles and writhes, twisting and turning, embracing the shore under its steady growl. And on the sand, a young man stares into the far end of the ocean.

Hikikomori (2012)
Short film focusing on an adolescent girl suffering from agoraphobia. The character spends most of her time indoors, isolating herself from the outside world. The film follows the character in an apparent state of hypnagogia. In this deep, relaxed state of consciousness she finds herself unable to distinguish her dreams from reality. This is mirrored in the editing between digital and hi-8 video footage and two differ- ent compositions made from ambient sound recordings. On the threshold of sleep the character appears to temporarily escape from her condition and explore the outside world. Watch Here: https://vimeo.com/43363224

Waves (1973)
Waves is a visually breathtaking film about the power of the sea. Capturing the Atlantic Ocean in various moods as it crashes against the Irish coasts, the film is a hymn to the relentless power and endless beauty of this elemental force of nature. With coastal scenes harking back to the majesty of Flaherty’s Man of Aran (1934), Carey offers a unique sea-centred depiction of the islands as his painterly cinematography offers mesmerising images of roiling seas, waves crashing against the Aran rocks, sunsets and a golden full moon. John Taylor, friend and colleague of Carey, had originally worked on Man of Aran and filmed some of the additional photography in Waves.

Shore Things (1996)
People love going to the beach for lots of different reasons. The sun. The sand. The salt-water taffy. In this slightly wacky documentary, we consider all kinds of things that draw people to the coast: board walks, seafood, lifeguards, even metal-detectors and roller skates. From Nantucket to Venice Beach, people relax and bounce in the waves. From the Outer Banks to Oahu, beachgoers bring along their fishing gear and hope to catch some dinner.

Sometimes Even the Shore Drowns (2022)
Inspired by Rachel Carson’s 1955 book The Edge of the Sea, this short film is a cinematic ode to the myriad forms of marine life on the intertidal mudflats of Karachi. Between the ebb and flow of tides, the city’s exposed shoreline is home to a fish that walks on land, the mud crab that clings tenaciously to mangrove tree trunks, the mighty periwinkle, the bubbler crab that spits out sand balls and many other fascinating creatures. In and around mangrove forest creeks, amidst steaming vessels and a new skyline, the film takes you on a silent journey through a delicate wetland ecosystem on the shores of an industrial city that might soon disappear.

That's another story (2014)
It takes a fair bit of casual chat for Elle to realize she is able to rant about life's connected events and the lines that link us all. Luckily, Guy is a good listener, specially when charmed by a pretty girl with a talent for intriguing randomness. As to the bond that brings the two of them together... well, that's another story.

House in the North Country (2010)
Described as being based on a play by Talaya Delaney, Kevin Jerome Everson' silent HOUSE IN THE NORTH COUNTRY is not your typical stage adaptation. For one, it is unclear where the rehearsal ends and the performance begins. Everson's close-ups offer a distinctly cinematic rendering of theatrical blocking, with the actors' repeated movements (a soldier’s salute, a woman's carrying a lit torch) taking on heightened significance. The plot remains obscure but Everson conjures a psychological intensity comparable to Maya Deren's studies for camera. - Max Goldberg
