Loving someone of the same gender is frowned upon in Sami communities. Sparrooabbán (Me and my little sister) shows what it’s like to be a minority within a minority. Suvi describes how her little sister Kaisa wishes to be accepted as she is. Like her sister, Kaisa is a Sami, but also in a relationship with a woman, and she also works as a deacon. There are obviously more constricting communities in the film than only one.

This documentary focuses on the goose hunt, a ritual of central importance to the Cree people of the James Bay coastal areas. Not only a source of food, the hunt is also used to transfer Cree culture, skills, and ethics to future generations. Filmmaker Paul M. Rickard invites us along with his own family on a fall goose hunt, so that we can share in the experience.

Inninimowin (Cree) is spoken in several Native communities across Canada. Although it is considered one of the most preserved Native languages; it is also at risk of disappearing. This goal of this documentary is to mend the gaps in understanding between generations by exposing the harsh treatment of Native peoples and moving towards reconciliation and healing. Remembering Inninimowin captures the lost conversations between generations.
