The Guest (2024)
In 2021, the border area between Poland and Belarus became a forbidden zone, three kilometers wide, where refugees found themselves brutally trapped. They had become the stakes in a political game: Belarus supposedly guaranteed free passage to the EU, but in Poland the refugees met with pushbacks, forcing them back across the border. Once in Belarus again, they were driven back towards Poland—a horrific stalemate in an inhospitable landscape of treacherous marshes.

S.O.S. Amazonas: Apokalypse im Regenwald (2019)
Large uncontrolled fires and flames have severely damaged the Amazon rainforests of Brazil in the summer of 2019 and destroyed countless trees. The main cause of the fires seems to be the man-made slash-and-burn. The drought, which has lasted for months, favors the situation. Likewise, the radical policy of the new Brazilian government under right-wing populist President Jair Bolsonaro contributes to the destruction of the Amazon jungles. When the green lung of the earth burns, not only experts and international politicians are terrified. Protecting the world's unique ecosystem is of vital importance to all people of the world. The film examines the current environmental and humanitarian catastrophe in the Amazon region and gives voice to environmental activists as well as relativizing proponents of the fires.

Hanau - Eine Nacht und ihre Folgen (2021)
The murderer came from the neighborhood: On February 19, 2020, an assassin shot and killed nine young people for racist motives in Hanau. Survivors and relatives report how they experienced the night of the crime and the months after it and how they defend themselves against the logic of the perpetrator who wanted to make them strangers in their own homeland. Since that February night, they have been fighting for the memory of the victims and for clarifying what happened. And they ask many pressing questions about the night of the crime and the perpetrator that no one has wanted to answer so far. The documentary consistently looks at the crime from the perspective of the bereaved and uses their stories to tell about troublesome life of a citizen of foreign descent in Germany today, about inequality and about the everyday racism of the authorities and educational institutions.

Kampf auf der Bosporus-Brücke - Die Türkei und der gescheiterte Putschversuch (2021)
The night of July 15, 2016 changed the history of Turkey. On that day there were coordinated attacks by parts of the Turkish army, among others in Istanbul. The aim of the military: a coup against the government. The decisive confrontation occurred on the Bosporus Bridge. While President Erdogan was still on vacation, live at TV he called on the people who were devoted to him to stand against the military. As an enemy for the masses, he presented his adversary Fethullah Gülen, whom he branded as the coup leader. He also urged the imams of the country's mosques to condition the population to resist. And so it happens that at night thousands of agitated people take to the streets to oppose the armed insurgents. The death toll was high. 352 people died across Turkey during the attempted coup. The consequences are even more serious: Erdogan used this gift, as he called it himself, to undermine democracy, to arrange mass arrests of dissidents and to transform Turkey into a dictatorship.

Sassnitz vs. Trump: The Dispute Over Nord Stream 2 (2020)
Sassnitz is a small coastal town at the Baltic Sea on the Island of Rügen. In its vicinity are the world-famous chalk cliffs, a tourist magnet. The Mukran Port is also part of the municipality. The overseas port is the starting point for the construction of Nord Stream 2, a natural gas pipeline that connects Germany directly with Russia. In 2020, the port town hit the international headlines. Even the New York Times reported and cited Mayor Frank Kracht as a staunch opponent from the northeast German province against the rumbling America of Donald Trump. The reason is the undisguised threat from Washington to ruin the international port economically if the natural gas pipeline continues to be built from there. Many jobs and the region's economic stability are at risk. Reporter Klaus Scherer documents the case, questions experts as well as those affected and looks at the behavior of national politicians towards the USA and how they react to the interference in internal affairs.

In Delusion: Trump and the American Catastrophe (2020)
In 2020, the USA experienced a multiple catastrophe: No other country in the world was hit so badly by the coronavirus pandemic, the economic slump was dramatic, and so was the rise in unemployment. A rift ran through society. In the streets there were protests of both camps with violent riots, authoritarian traits were evident in the actions of the leader of the nation. And all of this in the middle of the election year, when the self-centered president fought vehemently for his re-election. From the start of his presidency, Donald Trump had divided American society, incited individual sections of the population against one another, fueled racism, hatred, xenophobia and prejudice, insulted competitors and denigrated critical journalists as enemies of the people. The documentary shows how this could happen and what role the targeted disinformation of certain sections of the population through manipulative media played.

Frost/Nixon: The Original Watergate Interviews (1977)
This program, culled from the over 28 hours of interview footage between Sir David Frost and U.S. President Richard M. Nixon, was originally broadcast in May of 1977. Never before, nor since, has a U.S. President been so candid on camera. Even more intriguing is the fact that Nixon agreed to appear on camera with no pre-interview preparation or screening of questions.

God Bless America: The Power of Religion in the United States (2019)
There are approximately 60 million evangelicals in the United States. They represent by far the largest religious group and should not be underestimated politically as voters. They take the Bible literally and believe that God created the world in six days, that the world only existed for 6,000 years, and they dismiss scientific knowledge as lies. They fear Muslims and atheists, homosexuality and permissive life. Alcohol, abortion and sex before marriage are taboo. In large parts of the United States, secularism, the separation of church and state, are being removed more and more. The filmmakers of the documentary give a frightening insight into a strange world and show a supposedly modern country, in which large parts of the population have a level of intellectual development as in the Middle Ages and are as reactionary in their worldview as in Islamist theocracies.

Sexperiencias (1968)
The film has no clear plot. It deals with the reactions of an older man and a young woman to the news stories that occur in 1968: the May student protests, Vietnam, Biafra. It is scattered, apparently disconnected. The characters find themselves in illogical situations: in a train cemetery, in a ruined house where some young people edit a journal. There is no sound of steps, and doors, when opened or closed, make no sound.

Woomera 2002
Woomera is a notorious mandatory detention centre in South Australia, a particularly arid and inhospitable part of the desert. In 2002, about one thousand people gathered at Woomera to protest about the Government’s policy of mandatory detention for asylum seekers. When the protestors erect a temporary camp two hundred metres from the centre, the federal police arrive to dismantle their efforts; when they meet resistance, a scuffle ensues. Despite this, the protestors make it over to the interior camp fence and talk to the detainees, who are clearly perturbed and distressed by their ongoing imprisonment. A chaotic scene ensues with detainees attempting to escape, aided by the protestors, as the police try to stop the action. This locally made work is a telling document about a particularly contentious chapter in Australian history that continues to divide opinions about this policy.

Mein Nachbar ist Nazi - Was tun? (2021)
How do you deal with right-wing extremists in the neighborhood? Exclude, tolerate or involve? Rural regions in particular are prone to infiltration by nationalist settlers. Right-wing extremists systematically penetrate village structures, pretending to be nice neighbors, committed citizens and problem solvers in a completely non-ideological way. Local volunteer fire brigades and football clubs are infiltrated by Nazis. Done among others in the village of Groß Krams in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, where two right-wing extremists seem to be part of everyday village life. One of them works as a firefighter. In Appen, Schleswig-Holstein, the state chairman of the Hamburg NPD wanted to join the village's football club. But the club's management refused when they found out about the political background. The documentary by Hans Jakob Rausch illuminates the infiltration strategies of the extreme right and the difficult balance between tolerance and engagement against right-wing radicalism.
