A month and a half later, another fire broke out, this time in Komagome, burning down the two gates of Asakusa and Sujikai, and continuing on into the night. In 1880, the young, brave firefighter Ignacij Merhar from Prigorica commanded his company in the Slovenian language during the Ljubljana firemen's parade. With this, he upset the authorities at the time, which is why he was temporarily detained. Due to public pressure, the lawsuit was dropped and he was released. His action coincided with the national revival at the time, when Slovenians actively advocated the use of their native language both in public and in public institutions.
