In midwinter the German illusionist Dirk Ohm arrives in the small town Grong, a place ridden by the disappearance of a young local woman Maria. Dirk soon finds himself searching for Maria side by side with the villagers of Grong; and slowly he falls in love with the missing woman. This fictional story pays tribute to a real character, and to his mysterious disappearance in the winter of 2003.

In 1978, Peter Przygodda, editor of Wim Wenders‘ films, Reinhard Hauff and Hans W. Geissendörfer, together with his Brazilian colleague Braulio Tavares Neto and Martin Schäfer at the camera, filmed the long-distance truck drivers on their journeys with heavy goods vehicles and thus obtained first-hand information. In the course of the trucker film wave ('Convoy') of the late 70s, his film was released in cinemas. Trucker life appears as a social phenomenon far removed from the romance and hero myths surrounding the adventure of the highway.

Both are more interested in their hobbies and professions than in each other; also, Viktor isn't terribly interested in satisfying his wife anymore. In modern-day Berlin (1987), Frau Kutowski goes insane, believing herself to be the (real-life) notorious Anita Berber, a nude art dancer/drug addict/scandalous figure of post-WWI Berlin. (Berber died of tuberculosis in 1928, having achieved significant success and recognition throughout the dance world.) Frau Kutowski is placed in a mental hospital, where in her own mind she acts out Berber's final days, including in her fantasies the hospital's staff and patients, to represent Anita's friends and associates.

A successful chemist is forced to return his honeymoon vouchers to Greece. His fiancée has bought a dog for her hyperactive daughter against his wishes. Thanks to a conspiracy between the girl and the dog, the whole family ends up on vacation in the middle of the Šumava "wilderness." At first, the alternative vacation seems idyllic. All the plans of the ambitious father and caring mother gradually fall apart when the daughter and the dog meet someone who understands them. And that person has friends at the guesthouse where the family is staying. Of course, the mother and her fiancé find these people a little crazy. But the girl and the dog are perfectly happy with them. The life full of restrictions and obligations that the girl has led so far is becoming a thing of the past. None of the adults who find themselves in their vicinity can be sure that their lives will not change, whether they want it or not.
