Although Volker is one of the less privileged people as a parcel deliverer and single father to his son Benny, he tries never to let his good mood be spoiled. But the miserable pay increasingly pushes Volker to his limits. When his son wants to move back in with his mother, Volker gives up something no one thought he could do - his integrity. Dr. Frick is head of the psychiatric ward of a clinic. He and his wife Anna have an eleven-year-old daughter who suffers from a hereditary disease. Anna finds it very difficult to cope with her child's illness. The fact that Frick only concentrates on the child in his free time also puts increasing strain on the marriage. Dr. Frick increasingly takes refuge in the meticulous fulfillment of his professional duties. Duty and morality are foreign words for the pompous Christoph: superficial and narcissistic, the event manager believes he is in the fast lane of life. His girlfriend Sarah suffers in the chaotic relationship and ends it. She soon meets the loving Ben.

An intimate drama based on actual cases about a woman who murdered her own child. Interviewed by a psychiatrist, she recounts how she got in a seemingly hopeless situation which led her to believe that the killing of her child and a subsequent suicide where the only solution left. As more and more fragments of her desolate life are revealed, it becomes evident that the psychiatrist is also keeping a dark secret, and that she has in fact more in common with her patient as the latter would have guessed.

On his way to the provinces, young insurance agent Rupert crashes his car into a jam cart and picks up a real piglet. On top of that, he's given a good shaking by area manager Schulze, so the next day he takes his briefcase to the farms in the area. But the suspicious farmers wave him off. Only the farmer's wife Olivia shows any interest. She wants to take out an unexpectedly high life insurance policy for her sick father. Rupert is delighted, even though there might be a problem with the health check. Luckily, Rupert had made friends with the drunken family doctor Doctor Wedekind the night before. Surely he will be able to help? Olivia, however, isn't right, so the village policemen soon have their hands full. And so does the pretty waitress Lena...
