A psychiatrist, Charles, has his career and life become derailed after he refuses to testify on behalf of a former patient who had become clinically violent and unstable, resulting in the deaths of multiple people following a tragic breakdown of his mental complications. The patient then claims that Charles will not testify in court or to the police because the patient is openly part of the LGBT community. Further, the patient claims that Charles has recently gone through a religious conversion in his own personal identity which has resulted in a fully prejudiced reassessment of the gay community as a whole. Charles claims that the basis of these accusations are false and due to a misunderstanding. The resulting recriminations put Charles's entire career at risk and threaten to end his practice permanently.

Summer 1969 is very special for Andrea a 13 year-old boy who is about to leave, with his family, for a little village on the hills surrounding a great lake in Northern Italy. There he finds, like every year, his uncles, aunts, cousins, a fascinating mother, a father always away on business trips, a grandfather who does not want to grow old and a granny who talks to trees. The Turin area is devastated by floods: the Pô River has overflown and toxic waste from a local dump is now being carried by the stream. Which is why Augusto Vigano, the co-owner of a pub and a dedicated environmentalist, blocks, in the company of a group of friends, the train on which minister Antonelli is traveling. The politician, agrees to listen to the protesters'complaints and , filmed by television cameras, follows Vigano all the way to the dump. It is on this occasion that Vigano is noticed by a politician who sees at once the interest he can derive in having him elected. Augusto, who thinks that being elected to parliament is the best way to protect the environment more effectively, accepts his offer, without realizing that the cynical politician intends to manipulate him.

In a small Chinese village in Yunnan, a young woman named Xiwen sees her little son Shitou die of poisoning from adulterated food. On the other side of the world, in Italy, Matteo works on behalf of Feng, a multinational based in Hong Kong that traffics counterfeit food. To avoid arrest, Matteo escapes from Italy, saving a precious shipment of Feng's food, and this begins his unscrupulous climb towards success. At a time when he is enjoying the greatest prestige within Feng, Matteo meets Xiwen by chance, who has opened a restaurant in memory of his son and is fighting for the authenticity of food. Neither of them imagines that from that moment their lives will be turned upside down.
