Yue's brother was executed by the government. Determined to bring his body back home, Yue goes to Taipei alone and is nearly sold by human traffickers. Luckily, she is saved by Chao Kung-tao, a discharged soldier. Seeing no prospects in his own life, he decides to help Yue. Two people with no relations become friends in need, embarking on a journey that could cost them their lives.

A-Tai (Alan Ko) narrates that he is the son of Uncle Da (Chen Po-cheng) and Aunt Da (Samantha Ko), who run a troupe in Taichung. Uncle Da's troupe does traditional performance in front of religious processions. The religion requires performers to "initiate the faces and pose as gods"—to put on a special face painting, or to put on a heavy body puppet costume, both of these represent gods' persona. The performance demands training of martial art, acrobatics and endurance, and the performers are negatively associated with gangsters by the society. Uncle Da has been competing with Wu-cheng (Liao Jun), who studied with Uncle Da under the same master. A-Tai grew estranged with his father and the troupe, and went to Taipei to study Rock music, until a mysterious old man in blue coat bids him home.

Johnny (William) is a 25-year-old man, filled with sexual desire, who longs to have a real relationship with a woman. Every time he sees an attractive woman, he gets a nosebleed. But his life is changed on the day he decides to seek out baking lessons from Mary (June), a baking teacher who is 15 years older than him – and also happens to be a friend of his mother. Mary is wary of Johnny’s affections, and thinks that a relationship between them would be totally inappropriate. But Cupid has other plans for them. Eventually, she finds that fighting her feelings is a fruitless struggle – and finds herself seriously beginning on a romance with the younger man. But things take a turn when Johnny must go abroad to Italy to study. And then the situation gets extremely awkward when Johnny’s stunned mother learns of Mary’s love for her son.
