When lovelorn Michael arrives in Berlin to return a set of keys to his ex-girlfriend, Gabi, as an excuse to see her again, he finds her apartment empty save for a couple of plumbers making repairs to the central heating. Just as Michael learns from the plumber’s apprentice, Harper, that Gabi has popped out for a while but will return soon, the apprentice is attacked by his boss who has unexpectedly and inexplicably transformed into a raging madman. Together, Michael and Harper manage to bundle the crazed plumber out of the apartment and barricade themselves safely inside. Within minutes, they find themselves trapped in apartment block under siege from a horde of similarly insane people, apparently hungry for human flesh.

He was apparently even imprisoned and then deported to an open-cast lignite mine. Seduced by a lavish salary, Micha confirms the story, although only fragments of it are true.

On April 11, 1968, Rudi Dutschke is assassinated in West Berlin. He is regarded as the spokesman and symbolic figure of the socially critical, left-wing student movement. As a hate figure of right-wing media and neo-Nazis, he stands like no other for the radicalization of an anti-authoritarian movement. The assassination triggers the biggest political unrest in the still young Federal Republic of Germany. Alongside contemporary witnesses such as Knut Nevermann, Rainer Langhans, Stefan Aust, Barbara Sichtermann, Peter Wensierski, Thomas Giefer, Bahman Nirumand and Gretchen Dutschke, Rudi Dutschke himself provides the most important description of his person.

Berlin in the 1920s is a vibrant metropolis. After the horrors of the First World War, people seek their fortune at parties, in glittering variety theaters and dance halls. So-called "ring clubs" dominate the world of crime. When Inspector Paul Lang finds his friend, public prosecutor Barnekow, dead in the crocodile pool of the Tiergarten, the mastermind seems clear, at least to him: the murder clearly bears the signature of Immanuel Tauss, the former head of the gangster ring "The Crocodiles". But Lang's biggest adversary, Tauss, is in prison.
