Formerly a covert spy under the shogunate, ronin Azami Onijuro and his carefree companion, ronin, journeyed along the Kiso Highway. As they approached the Echizen Domain, they encountered a woman named Osode. Recognizing Onijuro's formidable skills, she asked for his help as she was on her way to Owari. Osode, the daughter of the second-ranking retainer of the Katsuyama Domain, carried a blood-sealed letter that served as evidence of a conspiracy involving the assassination of the domain lord by the Deputy Chief and the lord's younger brother. Onijuro's group becomes a target and is chased after by the chief retainer's top enforcer.

The fall of Yoshimoto Imanishi spreads Nobunaga Oriki’s (Hitoshi Ozawa) reputation across Japan. In Omi, he forges a brotherhood oath with Nagamasa Asakawa (Daisuke Nagakura), further extending the Oriki-gumi’s influence. Alarmed, National Police Agency Director Ichijo (Masahiko Tsugawa) orders their destruction. Meanwhile, Ieyasu Tokusawa (Yasukaze Motomiya) abandons the Imanishi-gumi, declaring independence as the Tokusawa-gumi. Upon learning this, Nobunaga extends his hand, joining forces with Tokusawa in pursuit of nationwide unification. Thanks to a counterattack led by Tamura (Yoshiyuki Yamaguchi) and the others, the assailants are captured, revealing that the attack was ordered by Sakashita, head of the Sakashita-gumi in Fukui, a group connected to the West Japan Mutsumikai.
