When the film broke out that a young man coming from a rich adopted family murdered his birth father, the controversy around the case hit a nerve with the public at large. In the winter of 1941, Japan declared war on Britain, the U.S., and France, launching the Pacific War. During Japan’s bombing of Malaysia, Chinese expatriate Lin Yazhen’s entire family, eleven members was killed, leaving only her and her older brother Lin Yalong alive.
