Based on the novel by Jáchym Topol. Potok works as a set designer in a small theater. He is in his thirties and his life is essentially going nowhere. He views his surroundings and himself with contempt. His aimless life only changes when he meets Černá. The couple in love escapes from the city. Inevitably, however, they once again encounter human calculation, shallowness, and bad taste. Potok falls back into his former skepticism, which leads to the total breakdown of their relationship. Černá leaves him, and a desperate Potok slowly comes to a more conciliatory attitude toward the world, where there is no longer any place for great love and dark romance. Unlike Jáchym Topol's literary work of the same name, which takes place during the three years after 1989, the film ignores the time frame. It focuses on the hero's internal conflicts, which are timeless.

Maruska is a blind girl and student at the Conservatory of Music who dreams of love and having a family despite her blindness. Her dream guy has curly blonde hair and blue eyes but she ends up falling in love with the dark eyed, swarthy Marek. Maruska lives with her overly protective grandfather whom is preocupied with his long-lost love. Maruska’s neighbor and best friend is constantly struggling with his headstrong mother as she refuses to accept that her son is gay. She blames everyone else - even her husband - for her son's "deviation." The fate of all main characters is unexpectedly intertwined and told through humorous and touching situations laced with subtle irony and hyperbole. Just as in life, with its funny situations and difficult tests, unexpected revelations and surprising twists, all characters will experience times when they behave blindly and forget to listen to their hearts.

"Sex, drugs and rock and roll", not in the West but in a Communist police state - Soviet-occupied Czechoslovakia of the 1970s . Anti-hero Olin, 21, has just left a mental hospital, after having slashed his wrists to dodge military service. His prominence in the underground scene of youthful revolt makes him an increasing target for the forces of order. Eventually he is on the run, determined to cross the frontier to the "West" he dreams of.
