The Odyssey (2026)

Odysseus, the legendary Greek king of Ithaca, embarks on a long and perilous journey home following the Trojan War, chronicling his encounters with mythical beings such as the Cyclops Polyphemus, the Sirens, and the witch-goddess Circe.

Nolan's Ancient Inspiration: Director Christopher Nolan, known for his innovative storytelling, has cited the films of Ray Harryhausen, a pioneer in stop-motion animation and special effects in fantasy films, as a major influence on his vision for bringing the mythical world of 'The Odyssey' to life.
A Sea of Film: Nolan shot over two million feet of IMAX 70mm film for "The Odyssey," equivalent to approximately 65 hours of footage, far exceeding the amount typically used for a standard film shoot. This is the first narrative feature to be shot entirely on IMAX 70mm film.
Untouched Locations: To capture the raw intensity of Odysseus's journey, Nolan scouted filming locations that had never been filmed in before, often requiring the cast and crew to embark on epic hikes to reach these untouched places.
Damon's Dedication: Matt Damon, who plays Odysseus, immersed himself in the role, with one stunt performer noting that Damon "literally" went "through the Odyssey" during filming. Damon himself stated that filming The Odyssey was the best experience of his career.
A Tale of Two Nolans?: Before Christopher Nolan was set to direct "The Odyssey", he was in the running to direct "Troy" (2004), which would have served as a sequel to Wolfgang Petersen's Iliad adaptation.
