This is the 2nd in a series of films called The Akumyō (悪名, "bad name"). The series consists of seventeen yakuza films starring Shintaro Katsu and Jiro Tamiya, produced between 1960 and 1974. A remake and a direct-to-video sequel starring Kōji Matoba were produced in 2001.
